Introduce children and adults to modern and contemporary art
with free tours, art workshops, artist talks, special events, screenings,

A morning drop-in program specifically designed for four-year-olds and their
parents/caregivers. Families are introduced to painting, sculpture,
photography, works on paper, and more.
A morning drop-in program for children ages five to ten
and their parents/caregivers. Families explore artworks in the Museum's
collection and special exhibitions through theme-based discussions and gallery
activities.
Focus on exploration of artwork from the galleries and allow

Conversations with Contemporary Artists: The Family
Edition
Families are given the opportunity to chat informally with
contemporary artists about their inspirations and art-making techniques.
Family Films
Parents and children can enjoy classic live-action and
animated short films, engaging discussions with a Museum educator, and
suggestions for follow-up activities in the Museum's galleries. Suggested ages
vary by screening.
Watch This! Films for Tweens
Families with children ages eleven to fourteen are introduced
to silver screen classics and cutting-edge contemporary films.
Story Time in the Sculpture Garden
Families spend the morning in The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller
Sculpture Garden. Listen to stories read by well-known authors and illustrators
and discuss where writers and illustrators get their ideas, how books are made,
and what materials illustrators use to create their work. All readings are followed
by a book signing in MoMA Books. For children ages four to seven.
Destination: Modern Art, An Intergalactic Journey to MoMA
and P.S.1
Travel
to MoMA with an alien creature! "Listen" to a painting or create an
on-line collage. Destination: Modern Art will tickle the senses as children
ages five to eight explore paintings, sculptures, and installations through
on-line activities and hands-on projects.

Children ages 4
through 12 and their families are invited for an hour-long program at The Cloisters, the
branch of the Museum devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe,

Sweet Home, April 3
Folk art can give us a glimpse into how people may have lived in different
places and time periods. Many objects in the museum depict various communities,
while others, such as quilts, chairs, and even walls, were made to be used in
the home. After the gallery discussion, families will create their own work of

El Museo’s
bilingual family programs and festivals provide unique opportunities for family

Fashion as Collage

Inspired
by the collage piecework as seen in the Rodarte Quicktake exhibition, kids will
make a hand sewn garment for their doll or stuffed animal using multiple kinds
of fabric and trim. Hand sewing techniques will be taught. Bring your doll or
stuffed animal and any scraps of fabric, trim or ribbon you’d like to
incorporate into your design. Ages 5 -13.
Admission is

Possibilities: Playful Sculptures, March 6, 10am – 12pm
Discover several sculptures included in this exhibition, and, inspired by
works such as Jeff Koons’s Equilibrium Tank (1985) or Robert
Gober’s Pitched Crib (1987), create a flip book telling a story that
will give new life to these works of art.
Why Trash It?, April 3, 10am – 12pm
Explore the work of artist John Bock, Marc Bradford, and Richard Hundley
and learn how they have repurposed waste materials. Using their work for
inspiration, create a work of art using discarded materials.

Wee-Arts DROP IN
The Wee-Arts
program offers an intimate and stimulating environment for children ages 10
months to 3 1/2 years to explore art making. This popular program develops a
young child's familiarity with art making materials including playdough,
paints, glue, and a variety of drawing tools. Wee-Arts encourages the process of experimentation,
exploration, and creative thinking.
