1-213 generated an inquiry topic for study as they began to wonder about how germs are spread.
They developed questions, such as "How do germs get into your body?," and "Are there good and bad germs?"
and brought their questions to Ms. Carlisi during Growing Healthy.
During Growing Healthy books were read by Ms. Carlisi, who aligned the inquiry with her HIV/AIDS
curriculum and research was done, but it was decided that we would need to bring in an expert to answer most of the questions. They invited Dr. Melanie Canon, a parent of Sophie Canon in 1-306, to be interviewed. This also tied into our Social Studies unit, where we are learning about community helpers.
Dr. Canon spent some time in 1-213 being interviewed and giving important answers to the inquiry questions. Students now know how your body fights infection and what the best ways of staying healthy are (#1 Washing Hands!!).
